4. Adding credits

You may want to add some credits before you make any scans. This enables you to get the best value pricing for your scan.

To add credits, click the ‘credits’ link in the menu.

Choose how many credits you would like to add. 1 credit = 250 words.

Note that some optional services, such as our cross-language checking, may increase the number of credits used. You will always get a quote before the scan is performed.

5. Scanning

To make a scan, click ‘scan’ at the top of the page. You will be presented with some options.

Plagiarism checker scan options

Detection modes: You can choose to scan for plagiarism, AI-generated content or both. If you choose both, your report will include two sections, one for each option.

Exclude: You can choose to exclude references, quotes, citations and any table of contents. This gives a more accurate percentage in your final report, as references often match sources on the web.

Sensitivity: You can choose low, medium or high. High will result in more matches but will be slower. Conversely, low will be less sensitive to matches, but will be much quicker.

Cross language: We would recommend this setting if your essay is not written in English. The great majority of academic material is written in English. This feature translates before scanning to ensure a more accurate result. If you don’t need this feature, just leave the setting as English > English.

Scan against the internal database? The Internal Database is a collection of millions of user-submitted documents that you have the option to use as a resource when uploading a file for a plagiarism scan. This makes your scan even more accurate. However, if you select this option, the file you submit will also be added to the Internal Database. Opting in means your content will be saved for others to compare scans to in the future.

If you don’t want your file to be added to the database, select ‘No’. Or, you can select ‘Yes’ initially and then email and ask us to remove it later. There is no charge.

File upload: Select up to 5 files to scan at once. The following file types are supported: html, htm, txt, rtf, xml, md, pdf, docx, doc, pptx, ppt, odt, epub, odp, ppsx, pages, xlsx, xls

6. Payment

Once you click submit, our software will calculate how many credits are required for your scan(s). You are then given the option to pay for these credits using any you have already purchased that are in your wallet, or to pay for more credits before the scan.

If you click ‘pay from card’, a popup box will open, allowing you to make a payment to continue. As noted previously, it is better to add credits before you scan, to get the best value for money.

7. Scanning

Once you have confirmed payment, your scan will be performed. Please leave this screen open while the scan is taking place. Depending on how long your document is/documents are, it may take a few minutes to complete.
